A few answers
to start with.
Practical information about claiming, costs and time limits.
View all questionsHow do I know whether I could claim?
A solicitor will consider what happened, whether another party may have been responsible, the injury or harm caused and the evidence available. You do not need to know the legal category before asking for advice. An initial assessment is not a guarantee that a claim will be accepted.
What does No Win, No Fee mean?
Eligible claims may be offered under a conditional fee agreement. Whether you pay fees or other costs, and what may be deducted if you win, depends on the agreement and any insurance. The terms, exclusions and possible liabilities should be explained before you decide to proceed.
Is there a time limit?
Many personal injury and medical negligence claims in England and Wales are subject to a three-year period, often running from the injury or a later date of knowledge. Exceptions and different deadlines can apply, including for children, people who lack capacity and certain claim routes. Ask promptly about your exact deadline; an enquiry does not stop time running.
How much compensation could I receive?
There is no reliable single figure without understanding your circumstances. An assessment can consider the injury, recovery, pain and suffering, lost earnings, treatment, care and other evidenced losses caused by the incident. The outcome depends on liability and supporting evidence.
